Direct measure of mallee stems (D10 and Height) was carried out and standing above ground biomass determined for vegetation in the Calperum Mallee SuperSite, Core 1 ha vegetation plot. The current vegetation is mostly regrowth from lignotubers following near complete destruction on above ground biomass during a wildfire event on 17 Jan 2014.

Direct Measure of Stems
Diameter at 10 cm above ground level and height of stems were measured using the method outlined in the SuperSites Vegetation Monitoring Protocols version 1.21 http://dx.doi.org/10.4227/05/56134C1310F16
Measurements were collected for 4 (10 m x 100 m) transects (S - N) starting at the SE corner of the core 1 ha vegetation plot.

Standing above ground biomass
Standing above ground biomass of trees in the Core 1 ha was determined using diameter at 10 cm above ground level and height of trees and allometric equations suitable for mallee vegetation based on Paul et al. Testing the generality of total above-ground biomass allometry across plant functional types at the continental scale. (Glob Chang Biol. 2015 Dec 18. doi: 10.1111/gcb.13201. [Epub ahead of print]).
