Using the Australian Soil Classification, the soil at the Robson Creek site classified out as an: Acidic, Dystrophic, Brown Dermosol; medium, non-gravelly, clayey/clayey, moderate; which can be abbreviated to: Acidic, Dystrophic, Brown Dermosol or Dystrophic, Brown Dermosol or Brown Dermosol or Dermosol The Robson Creek soil is developed in alluvium (probably mixed granitic and metamorphic, although this wasn’t assessed) and below the solum (A-B horizons) it has thick sandy or gravelly (2-10 mm sub-rounded) horizons."

Soil Classification
Eight cores (50 mm diameter; 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm depth) were collected in the core plot: from geo-referenced locations on the corners (4) of the vegetation plot, and equidistant from corners (4). In addition one geo-referenced core 0-10 cm, 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm from the centre of the core 1 ha plot. These were bulked according to depth and then the samples prepared for analysis.

Sample preparation
Samples were air-dried to constant mass, sieved to 2 mm, roots and rocks removed and weighed. The samples were homogenised and sent off for analysis within 5 days.
